Welcome to one of Copenhagen’s oldest and most beautiful restaurants

In 1910, Christian Krogh, as it was then spelled, saw a unique opportunity and opened a fish restaurant on Gammel Strand, just where the fishwives sold their fresh produce. He hired the best architects in the city to create the most beautiful surroundings for his great dining experience.

Since then, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge at nearby Holmens Kanal and there have been a number of different individuals at the helm: Krog’s changed from being a place where local people would come to eat fish to a fine dining restaurant for the rich and even for royalty. Our famous restaurant has many stories to tell.

We are proud to carry on Christian Krogh’s tradition, because we recognise what a rare and important place a restaurant like ours is: a thriving metropolis must develop and indeed Copenhagen is evolving, with its new neighbourhoods, its metro and its green initiatives. But a city also needs places like Krog’s if it is to keep its identity and its charm. Our aim is to preserve and strengthen Krog’s status as a landmark in the heart of Copenhagen.

We look forward to welcoming anyone who has an appetite for the best fresh fish in the city, served in a unique setting.

Meet our chefs

Nikolaj Mortensen
Head chef, 27

What´s your best food experience?

“Stammershalle on Bornholm in 2014. I’d won the dinner in a competition for chefs’ apprentices and was the first time I’d tried “fine dining”. It was also the first time I tasted truffles and the first time I discovered fish could taste so delicious. It was really something to remember.”

If you could have dinner with somebody famous – dead or living –who would it be and why?

“Genghis Khan. I’ve been slightly obsessed with him for a few years and think it would be an exciting evening in many ways”.

What's your opinion of pineapple on pizza?

“I would want to convince my new friend Genghis that pineapple pizza is the new enemy and watch it disappear from the face of the earth.”

Kristoffer Enrique
Sous-chef, 27

  What´s your best food experience?

“A cold fish soup on a boat in the Pacific Ocean near the Galapagos Islands in high seas. It was the first time I remember having coriander. Loved it ever since!”

If you could have dinner with somebody famous – dead or living – who would it be and why?

“It has to be Denzel Washington as he’s God’s gift to humanity!”

What is your opinion of pineapple on pizza?

“Pineapple on Pizza? I didn’t know you could eat pizza any other way. So, yes please – with double cheese of course!”

Younes Bakhti
Apprentice chef, 29

What´s your best food experience?

“That has to be when I rented a small apartment in the South of Italy and could get the freshest ingredients I had ever tasted. Good food begins with good ingredients.”

If you could have dinner with somebody famous – dead or living – who would it be and why?

“If I could, I’d have dinner with the author Arthur C. Clarke. His visions of the future were not only fascinating but in many cases reflected the future he himself was not able to experience. Maybe he had ideas about the kitchen of the future too?”

What's your opinion of pineapple on pizza?

“If you want pineapple on your pizza, that’s cool with me. I’m not sure what the Court of Human Rights would have to say about it, though!”

Alessandro Ghiringahelli
Chef, 27

What´s your best food experience?

''My best dinner so far was at Noma.''

If you could have dinner with somebody famous – dead or living – who would it be and why?

“If it were still possible, I’d have dinner with Kobe Bryant, because of his determination to bring out the best in himself and push himself to be the best, both in basketball and in everything he did.”

What's your opinion of pineapple on pizza?

“Do you mean Hawaiian pizza? I think it can be pretty good, but with the best ingredients, anything can be. Good ham and juicy caramelized pineapple – why not?”
